吉里巴斯唇顎裂寶寶展歡顏

來自吉里巴斯的優搭巴出生後即因唇顎裂問題，不僅喝奶時經常嗆到，也因外觀異常遭人指指點點。他的媽媽不知如何照顧他，直到遇見駐吉里巴斯醫療團的醫師，才被協助來台治療，現已順利完成手術。長庚顱顏中心於1998年開始與羅慧夫顱顏基金會合作，透過跨國義診、訓練，協助海外有顱顏問題的孩童接受治療，至今已協助超過9個國家、1917個孩子。
吉里巴斯為台灣17個邦交國之一，當地醫療僅能提供門診及輕症治療，急重症或外科手術均仰賴國際醫療支持，又因食物來源不穩定，嬰兒難以健康成長。長庚醫院外科部部長羅綸洲表示，唇顎裂的孩子最大的困難是吃東西和語言發展，孩子可能在吃飯時食物漏出，或是說話別人聽不懂，甚至在社交上也遭受同儕的壓力。
優搭巴是此行的病童中最順利的案例，2017年9月至長庚醫院接受第一次手術治療，修復外觀，今年再度來台進行顎裂修補。同行的瑪倫嘉雖已超過治療黃金期，仍順利完成手術，說話不再含糊難懂。蘭利則因水土不服，今（5日）才能進行手術。
「每600人當中就有1人是唇顎裂患者」，羅綸洲表示，當中的原因包括遺傳和環境因素。孩子在母胎中3個月即完成嘴唇發展，因此提醒婦女，在受孕前至受孕後3個月避免喝酒及抽煙、服用化學治療藥物、安眠藥和抗癲癇藥物，以免孩子因環境因素患上唇顎裂。
羅綸洲表示，台灣的顱顏外科治療採全額健保給付，手術黃金期為9個月大以前，並分為3個階段：3個月大時進行唇鼻修補，9個月大時進行齶裂修補，9歲則進行牙床植骨，完成所有療程後，定期追蹤至成年即可。即使錯過黃金時間，也仍有辦法透過手術治療。
